Leni om Strange Colors

I have a penchant for strange, feverish films that rely almost entirely on visceral audiovisuals, cryptic symbolism, and that seemingly discard narration altogether. As such, I was powerless against The Strange Color of Your Body’s Tears.

Beyond the film’s hypnotic storytelling, what kept my attention throughout was the ambiguity surrounding its underlying themes. The film feels like an all-consuming drug-induced hallucination that attempts to convey a thought-provoking message regarding the nature of violence. Yet…

Due to the film’s unsettling obscurity, nothing is reliable – least of all my own speculation. Or should I say investigation? Like the husband, I found myself constantly ruminating on the possible events leading to the wife’s disappearance, trapped in a labyrinth of secret passageways that lead nowhere and everywhere, perpetually on the cusp of some detrimental but crucial discovery.

That’s why I want to screen it: I am still trapped in the disorienting passageways, one foot through a red door, and I need someone to push me through it.
