The Dude abides.
Jeffrey “The Dude” Lebowski, a Los Angeles slacker—laidback to the point of horizontal—who only wants to bowl and drink White Russians, is mistaken for another Jeffrey Lebowski, a wheelchair-bound millionaire, and finds himself dragged into a strange series of events involving nihilists, adult film producers, ferrets, errant toes, and large sums of money.
Loosely inspired by the work of Raymond Chandler, the ever-inventive Coen brothers' seventh film is a typically bizarre mix of mistaken identity, hippy philosophy and ten-pin bowling. After the intricate construction and quirky intensity of Fargo, The Big Lebowski seemed to contemporary critics—failing to see its leisurely plotting as part of its charm—like a bit of a lark, and the result was a box-office disappointment. However, since its release, the film has grown into arguably the biggest cult classic of all, with legions of ardent fans attending the yearly Lebowski Fest, and even inspiring its own religious denomination, Dudeism.
In collaboration with Austmann Brewery & Tap Room, join us for a night of film, bowling, and other festivities, bathrobe optional.
