Breakfast on Pluto shares the life of Patrick “Kitten” Braden (Cillian Murphy), from growing up in foster care in Ireland during the tumultuous 1970s to going through a coming-of-age period looking for her true self, but also trying to go back to her roots by searching for her mother. This journey takes us through the personal story and her struggles finding her own way, with the political backdrop of the 1970s as well as the incredible fashion statements of the time, all paired with a soundtrack that just brings it all together and at times serves as a perfect voice-over. The movie is presented as chapters that chronologically explain Kitten's story. This adds a fairytale vibe to the film which in terms of genre is somewhat hard to pinpoint.
If you know who Cillian Murphy is, you might think of Tommy Shelby from Peaky Blinders or most certainly characters far from his interpretation of Patrick “Kitten” Braden. It's therefore very refreshing seeing him pull off such a different character so successfully. The movie also stars a lot of famous names such as Liam Neeson, Brendan Gleeson, Stephen Rea, Ian Hart, Gavin Friday and a rare appearance by British singer/songwriter Bryan Ferry.
We are fortunate enough to collaborate with Trondheim Pride for this screening. Hopefully a lot of you will join us to watch this gem of a movie during Pride.
